March is a “9” Universal Month [3 (March) + 6 (2022) = 9] in a “6” Universal Year. We are rounding out the end of this astrological year with a Pisces season that sees every planet (excepting Uranus which is sitting in Taurus) in the last three signs of the horoscope. The last quadrant in the horoscope and the number 9 in numerology both deal with endings and completion. As you enter the month of March, ask yourself what you don’t want to carry with your forward in the inevitable beginning of Spring. We are almost there.
The Set-Up
We begin the month with the Sun Jupiter and Neptune in Pisces, Mercury and Saturn in Capricorn, Venus Mars and Pluto in Capricorn, and Uranus sitting in Taurus. By the end of the month, both the Sun and Mercury will be in Aries, and Venus and Mars will have transitioned into Aquarius to join up with Saturn. All of the middle and transpersonal planets will remain the same all month long. Additionally, we have a rare month with not a single planet retrograde. Though we might like to charge ahead, Venus and Mars are poorly energized in Aquarius and the Sun has little forward momentum in Pisces. This is a month to mop up the remains of the No Longer in anticipation of the Soon. Clean-Up in aisles 2020 and 2021 – somebody made quite the mess.
We will be experiencing a very synchronistic double-whammy of conjunctions early in the month when Venus and Mars meet up for conjunction at 00° Aquarius which was the exact degree of Saturn and Jupiter’s Great Conjunction on the Winter Solstice in 2020. What started out beyond us has become personal. From without, so within.
The Nitty Gritty
Venus and Mars continue their march onwards in lockstep with one another which would normally be a very positive relationship aspect. Unfortunately, they have been marching in the shadow of Venus’s retrograde this entire time – they will finally exit this effect on 3/01. Venus combined with Mars can have a very romantic undertone (or sometimes simply randy), but Capricorn is often randy but rarely romantic and Aquarius is neither. They are about to trine the North Node (the node of fate), conjunct Pluto (the planet of death and endings) in a stellium on 3/02, and then enter Aquarius and complete that above-mentioned Double Whammy Conjunction that echoes back to the Winter Solstice in 2020 on 3/05. During the middle of this, we will experience an intense water new moon at 11° Pisces (with Mercury exactly conjunct Saturn our planet of Fate as well).
Cry yourself a river if you have to, but do not keep what is meant to leave your life during the beginning of the month of March. With all of our personal planets involved in this energy (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Mars), this is bound to be personal. That said, what is happening now has been a long time in coming and you have likely put off this inevitability for far too long. The Venus-Mars conjunction on 3/05 is about to unlock energy that has remained caged since the end of 2020. If you’ve been paying attention and seeing to this situation, you have likely let off enough pressure to control the outflow. If you haven’t: Get to High Ground Now.
This is not a drill.
I do not mean to scare anybody: consider this your astrological energy report. The beginning of March calls for some serious storms – do with that as you will. Some people like to dance in the rain. Other people catch the chills easily. You know who you are: act accordingly.
That is, in essence, the secret: knowing who you are Venus and Mars (and every other planet) in Capricorn whispers. As Venus and Mars meet up and then eventually differentiate from each other – sextiling Chiron in Aries, squaring off with Uranus in Taurus, and then each meeting up in conjunction with Saturn in Capricorn in their time – this will finally let the pressure off of that Jupiter and Saturn conjunction and the subsequent Saturn-Uranus square that we experienced throughout all of last year. Those two were in and of themselves a double whammy – Saturn being the Plant of Constriction first conjunct Jupiter, the planet of Enbiggening (you can’t enlarge and constrict, can you – they cancel each other out) and the squared off with Uranus, the planet of drastic change (you can’t stay the same and change – they cancel each other out). We have been very stuck in the thick of it with nowhere to go and nothing to do except stew about it.
Okay, that’s not being fair – I know a bunch of people who have harnessed the intense energy of the last two years to enact real and lasting change in their own lives (myself included). But if you’ve been looking for Easy Street, it hasn’t been anywhere around.
And truth be told, March isn’t Easy Street either. You’ve got to put in the work to see results. With the Sun joining up with Jupiter and Neptune in the mutable water sign of Pisces, there isn’t likely to be any straight path in sight, let alone Easy Street. The energy will be ephemeral and perhaps, at times, outright confusing – especially when the Sun meets up Neptune the planet of diffusion and dissolution on 3/13. Pisces can have a very tenuous grasp of the truth (they tend to prefer the stories that they’ve made up in their own heads) so beware “The Lie”. All might be exposed on 3/17 when Mercury trines Uranus (one of the big truth-tellers in the horoscope) while the moon in Virgo (another sign that deeply appreciates the concreteness of Truth) opposed Neptune in Pisces. Stay aware of what comes up that day, it will have vast implications in the months to come.
Venus in Aquarius sextiles Chiron in Aries under the light of the full moon at 27° Virgo on 3/18 while both the Sun and Moon fall into alignment (sextile and trine) to our planet of transformation Pluto – this one may hurt a bit, especially for those of you that identify strongly with the Divine Feminine. What has been revealed in the days/week before may have us making difficult and painful decisions but we are supported by the practicality of the Virgo Full Moon here. Separate from what you have to from a place of Need rather than Emotion. Make the choices that benefit everybody. Be equitable.
The very next day, Venus in Aquarius squares off with Uranus in Taurus which stands as a bit of a warning here: if you don’t do it nicely and will love, Uranus will do it for you. This is why this is a month to really show up in your own lie and do the work – you will want to stay aware so that you can mold these energies. Uranus has the energy of the Tower card – a lightning strike from the heavens. Let’s be aware humans so that the card shows up reversed and we have some control over how this all unfolds.
On 3/20, the Sun enters Aries and the astrological year is reborn anew. It also starts a sequence of extreme Caution Days: these are days to lie low, stay home, and do your very best to not rock the boat. On 3/20 the Moon in Libra squares off with Pluto which will make tensions rise. On 3/21, Mars makes a painful sextile to Chiron in Aries and the moon in Scorpio will form a tense t-square in the sky with Uranus in Taurus and Venus/Mars in Aquarius. On 3/22, Mars squares off with Uranus in Taurus which is ALWAYS a High Voltage ****DANGER**** day. Watch out for accidents, bad weather, and violence of all kinds during these days.
On 3/22-3/23, Mercury conjuncts Neptune in Pisces while both are square to the moon in Sagittarius. Another nebulous – perhaps intentionally untruthful – set of days. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is. Mercury in Pisces immediately sextiles our North Node in Taurus though, so the reveal is not far behind it. Mercury can be a fickle tricker and prone to fibs, but seems to have learned from its recent retrograde cycle through Aquarius and Capricorn and wants to come clean as they then conjunct the Moon and Pluto in Pisces on 3/26. Trust the truth when you hear it on that day.
Venus conjuncts Saturn in Aquarius on 3/28 and you can see how difficult the journey through her retrograde to here at the end of Aquarius has been. Sometimes about what we want – what makes us feel comfortable – even, perhaps, what we attract, has been unalterably changed and we all have some adaptations to do so that we can fall into alignment with the new versions of ourselves. Give yourself a break on this day and trust the process. If you’re feeling confused still, trust that your future may be revealed more fully on 3/31 when she makes a square to the North Node in Taurus.
All and all, the energy of this month is going to be best navigated with a ton of Awareness – both awareness of the self and situational awareness of our Others. Venus and Mars in Aquarius want to be free and may demand radical freedom from all constraints during this time. Checking out (a bad habit of many Piscean types whether through substances, disassociation, or daydreaming) is very ill-advised. There are a relatively small (though impactful) number of aspects this month so the moon will set the mood every day. Step out of it and create your own mood, if you dare.
